ECZEMA, also known as Atopic Dermatitis, is a skin disease in which your skin becomes dry, red and itchy. It is a type of Dermatitis that can occur at any age. The disease damages the barrier function of your skin. Eczema affects both males and females equally. The people who have a family history of Asthma and food and environmental allergies have a higher risk of catching Eczema. The disease is not contagious and cannot spread from one person to another.

Symptoms of Eczema

The symptoms of Atopic Dermatitis differ from person to person and as per the severity of the problems. Here are some of the most common symptoms experienced by eczema patients:

  • Dry skin : During an Eczema outbreak, your skin becomes dry. You can feel the dryness on different parts of your body such as arms, neck, face, legs, skinfolds, etc.
  • Constant itching : Eczema may also cause your skin to itch constantly. You may itch only on certain parts of your body but at times, you may feel like your entire body itches. In some cases, the itching becomes severe at night.
  • Red, brown, or discolored patches on skin : Your skin might become red, brown or discolored on different parts of you body where your eczema is active (such as hands, feet, ankles, wrist, neck, skin folds, and eyelids). In the case of infants, patches can occur on the face and scalp.
  • Raised bumps on skin : Small raised bumps can be seen on your skin. These bumps usually release fluid or thin crust when they are scratched.
